3 Month Photos
It's nice to have someone in the family who is awesome at taking pictures. Yesterday Vera came down to take a few 3 month shots of P. He was a well rested, happy, relaxed boy who went along with anything and everything. I love how each picture captures a different expression. He has so many looks about him.

Crazy Boy
P turns 3 months and gets a little bit crazy. I find it hard keeping up with him now, and he isn't yet able to move around on his own. I do love his energy. He spent the day rolling (he can make it from his back to his tummy on his own now), jumping, and doing whatever he could to avoid sleep. In fact I thought I had him sound asleep and down for a nap. 30 minutes later I check on him and he's wide awake, smiling, and kicking in the crib. He doesn't make a peep just gets to playing. What a funny kid.
Sometimes P gets angry when we go out, and today was one of those days. I'm pretty sure people must think he's a bitter little boy, when really he is generally happy and full of smiles and laughs. That's why it's important we catch moments like these on video. Proof for all those non-believers!!
P - I love it that you love being home with your mom and dad. You are awesome! Keep jumping big guy. (Maybe you'll tire yourself out!!)

3 Months
This week our little guy is three months. He continues to grow and change in what seems to be a blink of an eye. At the beginning he was keeping right on pace with his dad's size when he was a baby, but now P has taken the lead and developed quite a margin. I'm guessing this growing will slow down...eventually. I am happy he occasionally tolerates being rocked instead of bounced. It's a little easier on this mom's upper body. It also allows for me to better breathe in that addicting baby head smell. I love it.
Grunting is one of P's newest hobbies. He stiffens up his whole body and lets out a not so cute growl. It's his way of telling us he's bored. At least I think. I'm still trying to decipher his sounds, noises, and body language. When he's sleepy he lets out these guttural moans that sound just like his dad when he is sick. Sometimes he continues this for at least 20 minutes before letting himself drift off. He has also found a new love for his mobile. He will lay in his crib smiling at the animals that are swinging and spinning above him. He is especially drawn to the monkey. I love that he plays in his crib. He enjoys his own space, and I think this is important as we begin trying to get him to fall asleep on his own.
P continues to sleep well at night. Lately he's been falling asleep while eating between 7 and 8, and goes down without any further effort (except the nights his dad is gone for hockey...of course). He wakes up around 3 to eat, and then goes back into his crib without any fuss. He will wake up a couple of hours later, and it's often not to eat, but rather to cuddle in bed. This is where he sleeps till he is ready to begin the day. There is something special about those moments where the house is silent, and I can look down and see such a beautiful baby peacefully snuggled in beside me.
I think that daddy is going to get his wish in that his boy will enjoy wrestling with him in the basement. P is tough and strong. He loves using his legs and often tries to accomplish more than he should. Lately his focus has been to try to pull himself into a sitting position when he is reclined. He is working on those abs. He is also close to rolling over.
Alright - I wrote the first four paragraphs of this post before I took P for his teaching debut. He is the Seeds of Empathy baby at the daycare and today was his first day as the teacher. He did great and as a mother I will brag! The program is designed to teach kids empathy, and P gets to be the teacher at the daycare, West Park, and Parkside. He loved looking at all the little kids today and was a bit of a showoff! I layed him on his back so the kids could measure how many blocks tall he was...well he then decides to roll from his back to his side. It was awesome! So I guess what I said in the previous paragraph was true...I just didn't realize he would do it in the next hour! Way to go big guy! You made your mom proud...and I love that you are the cutest little teacher ever.
We didn't have a seat for Peyton around the house, so this is what I used last night!

Thankful
I am thankful that it is a long weekend as it means Peyton and I get one more day with daddy. Someone extra to share our laughs and smiles with always makes the days more enjoyable. An extra set of hands to help out when things are difficult is appreciated. Since not all weekends are long weekends we have to make sure we take advantage of the few that we are given.
I am thankful for a healthy big boy who continues to grow and surprise us every day. I have those proud moments when Peyton accomplishes something that only I, as a mom, would find captivating. Yesterday I put on my necklace for the first time since our trip to the Dominican. On this necklace is a tiny pendant of my birthstone. Nothing big and flashy as that is not my style. In the evening P was sitting contently on my lap when he quickly took note of the necklace. He worked so hard to get his little hands and fingers in the perfect position to grab the pendant. Now I have noticed that he is prone to grab everything around, like the neck of my shirt or back of my arm, but more often than not this seems like coincidence. Yesterday the look on the little man's face, and the simple fact that he took note of something so tiny, made me overflow with happiness. I can only hope this determination and persistence continues to grow along with him.
I am thankful for all the time I get to spend with P. When I put him to sleep he often stares deep in my eyes and clutches my hands which makes me feel amazing. It certainly helps me forget about how heavy he is becoming in my arms. Not to mention long. He spills over the sides and I rarely lay him in the crib without hooking his feet on the rails.
I am thankful that P is starting to enjoy exploring new territory. Though car rides still aren't enjoyable he has moments where he seems relaxed and content. When we go somewhere new he has a look of excitement on his face.
I am thankful P is his own little man. He isn't a fan of some of those typical baby things. He doesn't like drinking from a bottle. He zips his lips shut when a soother comes anywhere near his mouth as he prefers sucking on his own hands. He also isn't a huge fan of walks in the stroller. This is the only one that bothers me a little. I'd love to have the chance to take him for walks so he could enjoy the sunshine and nature around him. This would also help me fulfil my need to get a little activity in during the day! I have a feeling with time and persistence he will come around.
I am thankful for Sean as he is a wonderful daddy who is completely invested in this new role. He is eager to change any dirty diapers, seeks time to bond with his little boy, and is always looking for ways to help out. He definitely puts his family first and shows this through his words and actions.
I am thankful for my family. My parents are the first ones to help out with whatever is needed. During the days when I couldn't get P to stop crying my mom was the first one at the door to lend a hand. She continues to help out by watching P so I can get out and help with soccer. My dad's love for P can be summed up by reading the text he send me last sunday: "Is the little kneeper sleeping would like to come down and hold him." When I didn't respond my mom said he continued to tell her that he was coming to see him and hold him and didn't care if he cried. I love that about my dad!
I am thankful that P has such a cute older cousin to look up to and play with (when he gets a little older). Watching C interact with the little guy is precious. She rubs his back to try and sooth him, is eager to hold his bottle, and shares that innocent smile with him. Can't wait to see how things evolve as they grow up!
We are going to enjoy today as a family. We have been blessed with each other and this is time to cherish.
